Coasts and Castles

An epic hiking, wildlife-spotting and History extravaganza amongst Northumberland's stunning Farne Islands.

Spend four unforgettable days exploring the dramatic Farne Islands, situated on the stunning Northumbrian coast. Walk barefoot across the tidal causeway to Lindisfarne, as the Anglo-Saxon monks would have done before you. Explore the ruins of Lindisfarne priory, ravaged once by the first viking raid in England and later by Henry VIII! Take a boat trip out to spot seals and explore the more remote Farne Islands before learning about local legend of Grace Darling and visiting her museum and tomb in the picturesque village of Bamburgh, once the capital of the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Northumbria. Learn to climb with instructors from the world famous Cairngorm Mountain Leader Centre and pull on your wetsuit to and enjoy a range of water sports on the loch. Finally, visit the most haunted castle in the country and learn about the ghosts and ghouls that keep the staff there busy!

Easily our most asked question! Your young adventurer will be partnered up with one or more boys/girls their age and will share a 2/3-person tent. Do feel free to email us asking that your child be paired with a particular friend but do acknowledge that this is not always logistically possible.

Unlike some of our other trips, this expedition only requires the children to carry their large bag over very short distances. Your child will only carry a medium-sized daypack over longer distances.

Your child will need full waterproofs (jacket and trousers). These will need to be 10,000 mm or above. If your items don't state their waterproof rating, the chances are that they're not waterproof!

Yes. On this trip, trainers will be fine. An additional pair of spare trainers and/or some sandals/flip-flops are also advised.
